Pabandom iš naujo! 2020 took place between January 11th and February 15th, 2020 and is the Lithuanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ). The band The Roop won the preliminary round with their song On Fire .

On September 26, 2019, the Lithuanian broadcasting company Lietuvos nacionalinis radijas ir televizija (LRT) announced its concept for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Compared to previous editions of the Eurovizijos, the focus this time will be on the quality of the contributions. Therefore, the number of shipments is reduced to six. A new working group is to accompany the selection process. In addition to the deputy general director of LRT, Gytis Oganauskas, Ramūnas Zilnys (program director LRT televizija ), Audrius Giržadas (producer), Giedrius Masalskis (program director of LRT Radijas ), Darius Užkuraitis (program director LRT Opus ), Rūta - communication manager Jolanta Tarasevičienė (LRT coordinator for external relations) and Povilas Varvuolis (director) accompany the selection process. It was also announced that the preliminary round would no longer be called Eurovizijos dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka , but rather under the title Pabandom iš naujo! ( German  We'll try again! ) should take place.

Based on the jury concept of the Eurovision Song Contest, the juries should no longer comment on the performances during the broadcasts. Instead, they will watch the performances in another room. The viewer voting should also no longer be shown during the broadcast, but only be published at the end of the broadcast. It is also no longer possible to take part in the competition with two songs at the same time. LRT announced financial support for the winner of the preliminary round to improve his performance.

On December 23, 2019, LRT announced that a total of 36 contributions will take part in the broadcast. The performers and their contributions were presented on January 3, 2020.

The preliminary round will consist of a total of six programs. In the first three programs, the heats , all 36 participants will appear. Half of all entries per heat, i.e. a total of six, qualify for one of the two semi-finals. There will be nine performers per semi-final, four of which will qualify for the final. A five-person jury and the viewers decide equally on all programs.

Choice of contribution

From September 30th to December 8th, 2019 composers had the opportunity to submit a contribution to the Lithuanian television station LRT. On December 23, 2019, LRT announced that they had received a total of 60 songs.

Moderation

On December 23, 2019, LRT announced that, as in the previous year , the presenter Gabriele Martirosian and the presenter Giedrius Masalskis will perform as a duet through the programs. The singer Ieva Zasimauskaitė, on the other hand, will moderate the Green Room . She has already participated in the preliminary round four times in the past and won it in 2018 , reaching twelfth place in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 .

Returning performers

A number of performers will return to the competition in 2020. Particularly noteworthy is the participation of the singer Aistė Pilvelytė, who is taking part in the Lithuanian preliminary decision for the twelfth time without ever having won it.

Žalgirio Arena

The final (Finalai) took place on February 15, 2020 at 9:00 p.m. ( EET ) in the Žalgirio Arena in Kaunas . The band The Roop won both the jury and televoting with their song On Fire . The jury consisted of Zita Kaminska, Myles Jessop and Anthony Marshall. Due to the unexpectedly high number of SMS votes received, 24,229 audience votes were not taken into account. On January 19, 2020, LRT published the corrected voting result in consultation with TCG Telecom and Grand Thornton Baltic. This does not change the final result, but increases the profit margin of THE ROOP, which increases its distance to the runner-up Moniqué to around 35,000 audience votes. The 50,139 audience votes mark a new voting record for an artist in the final of the Lithuanian preliminary decision. The record so far was 32,669 votes. In 2006 the LT United group achieved this value.
