Euthymios Zigabenos or correctly: Zygadenos Ευθύμιος Ζιγαβηνός or Ζιγαδηνός, Latin form of the name Euthymius Zigabenus or Zigabenius (* mid 11th century; † after 1118) was a Byzantine theologian and monk in Constantinople .

Life

On behalf of Emperor Alexios I , he edited the Panoplia, d. H. Armory of the Orthodox Faith , consisting of 28 sections devoted to the individual heresies and their refutation. They are directed against Islam , the Bogomils and the Paulikians , among others . The work is largely compiled from texts by the church fathers ; hardly more than two sections are original works by Euthymius. He also wrote a commentary on the four Gospels and commentaries on the Psalms and Paul's letters , each again in the form of katen , that is, as a compilation of older commentaries.
