Eva & Adele (spelling: EVA & ADELE) is an artist couple from Germany who live in Berlin . They are best known for their performance appearances, but have also been represented in exhibitions with material works since 1997. In addition to appearing in public, they work with the media of photography , video and painting .

biography

Eva & Adele have appeared at art exhibitions and vernissages since 1989 , but also in public spaces. They appear in eccentric, often pink, ladies' costumes, high heels, handbags, with shaven heads and brightly made-up faces. The stylized exterior illustrates its claim as a living work of art. The artists see themselves as “work of art”, life as art and art as life. Although their appearance has a feminine connotation, they advocate a gender identity that is not defined by society, but is freely selectable. One of their slogans for this: Over the Boundaries of Gender .

Eva & Adele, Milan (2007)

You appear in the exhibitions like any other visitor and are communicative with the other visitors. They have the resulting photographs sent to them by the recipients and transform them into pictures in the studio, that is, they are brought back into the art context. This is the work complex Cum . Eva & Adele deal in a similar way with photographs that they find of themselves in the media. This complex of works is called Mediaplastic . In their videos, they address the behavior of “normal” people who are confronted with them.

In contrast to Gilbert & George , who also see themselves as a living work of art, Eva & Adele hide their real identity. Their artificial appearance does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the two people. The slogan serves as a reference: Coming out of the future . As a biography they only give their body measurements, just like a work of art is measured:

Eva & Adele were portrayed on film by various artists (e.g. Rosa von Praunheim ).

Since Eva & Adele see themselves as a living work of art, a museum takes place wherever they appear: Wherever we are is museum (wherever we are, there is a museum).

Futuring

Futuring (FUTURING) is a word invention by the artist couple Eva & Adele. As a work of art, Eva & Adele published this word invention for the first time in the form of a stamp in 1991 on the occasion of their performance Wedding Metropolis in the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin. Since then, the made-up word futuring has played a key role in the work of the artist. The word was then published in almost all artistic media, at exhibitions and in their accompanying programs.
