Notable exhibitions under his direction were among others in 2003 “Hyperréalismes USA 1965-1975” (curators Jean-Claude Lebensztejn and Patrick Javault), or in 2005 the two exhibitions Arthur Cravan , 1887-1918” (curator: Emmanuel Guigon) and Xavier Veilhan  : Le plein emploi ” .

In 2006 he was appointed by the then Parisian mayor Bertrand Delanoë as the new director of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in the Palais de Tokyo , succeeding Suzanne Pagé , who had held this position since 1988.

Hergott is the author and co-author of numerous art historical writings and contributions, especially for art catalogs by contemporary artists.
