D. Sharpe
D. Sharpe (born February 8, 1947 in New Jersey as David Sharpe , † January 16, 1987 in New York City ) was an American drummer and marimba player who worked in funk and rock music as well as especially in jazz - and was active in the merger area .
Sharpe first belonged to the music scene in Boston and worked from 1975 with the Modern Lovers around Jonathan Richman , with whom he also recorded. From 1977 to 1983 he was part of the Carla Bley Band . He can be heard on numerous albums by Carla Bley , but also on More Movies by Michael Mantler .
Tom Varner ( Meditation For D. Sharpe , with Bobby Previte ) and drummer Bob Moses ( Weildin 'for D Sharpe ) have dedicated pieces to Sharpe.
