Evan John Jones (born October 23, 1872 in Shamokin , Northumberland County , Pennsylvania , †  January 9, 1952 in Bradford , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1923 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Evan Jones attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1892 the Clarion Normal School . He then taught as a teacher for some time. After studying law at Dickinson Law School and his admission as a lawyer in 1896, he began to work in St. Marys in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1918 congressional election , Jones was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Charles Hedding Rowland on March 4, 1919 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1923 . During this time the 18th and 19th amendments were ratified. It was about the ban on alcohol trafficking and the nationwide introduction of women's suffrage .

In 1922, Evan Jones was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After serving in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer in Bradford. He was also vice president and general manager of Emporium Forestry Co. and director and advisor to Grasse River Railroad Corp. He died on January 9, 1952 in Bradford, where he was also buried.
