Evangelical Reformed Church Rekum

The Evangelical Reformed Church in Rekum , a district of Bremen - Blumenthal , is the house of worship of the Evangelical Reformed Community of Rekum . The church building , erected in 1956, is in the middle of the district, at Pötjerweg 75.

history

For centuries, like Neuenkirchen , Vorbruch and Rade, Rekum belonged to the parish of Neuenkirchen and from 1604 to the parish of Blomendal . Rekum was a municipality in the district of Blumenthal from 1885 to 1932 , then belonged to the district of Osterholz and from 1939 to Bremen. In 1864 635 of the 731 inhabitants of the village were Protestant Reformed and 94 were  Protestant Lutheran . The neighboring Bremen was also largely reformed in the 18th century, with the exception of the Lutheran Bremen Cathedral Community ; It was only after the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 that the two Protestant churches merged to form the Bremen Evangelical Church (BEK).

When Rekum was incorporated into the city of Bremen in 1939, the Rekum congregation remained a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church with its seat in Leer and is still in existence today.

In the mid-1950s, a separate church building was built in Rekum and consecrated in March 1956. The common parish Neuenkirchen-Rekum existed until 1980; since then Rekum has been an independent parish.

Building

The single-nave nave from 1956 with a red clinker facade is 15 meters long and 9 meters wide. On the gable roof is a small octagonal roof skylights . There is a seven-axis extension at right angles to the main building. In 2004 the square bell tower with a simple, curved, tile-roofed tower was added . The interior of the church is kept simple.

Parish of Rekum

2100 people belong to the Rekum parish (2016). There are youth and women groups, senior groups, music groups (gospel choir, trombone choir, chamber choir), confirmation groups, crawling groups, the parents 'regulars' table and leisure groups. The Evangelical Diakonieverein Rekum has been looking after its members at home or in the house for assisted living right next to the church since the 1990s. The Rekum parish is the only Protestant parish in Bremen that does not belong to the Bremen Evangelical Church (BEK). Instead, it belongs to Synodal Association VIII of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Germany.
