Evangelical Church (Waldwimmersbach)
The Evangelical Church in Waldwimmersbach, a district of the Lobbach community in the Rhein-Neckar district in northern Baden-Württemberg , dates back to a chapel from the 15th century. The current building was erected in 1792 and has been redesigned many times inside.
history
A chapel in Waldwimmersbach was first mentioned in 1494. With the Reformation in the Electoral Palatinate , the chapel became Protestant. In 1788 the old chapel was dilapidated and instead of renovation, the decision was made to build a new larger church, which was built in 1792 and which, according to the Protestant ideas of the time, was simply furnished as a preaching church .
The originally late Baroque interior of the church has been redesigned many times. A lightning strike destroyed the gallery and the organ in 1886 . A major renovation took place in 1903, with the interior of the church being redesigned in the eclectic style of historicism with echoes of classicism and Gothic . The altar and the pulpit date from that time. At that time, among other things, new stalls were procured and wall paneling was installed. Due to the ingress of moisture in the ground, the wooden furnishings in the church suffered greatly. In 1951 the staircase was renewed. In 1954 the church was renovated again, with the wall paneling removed and the stalls, which had already been infested with sponge, replaced. The old floor made of sandstone slabs was replaced with a new floor covering made of asphalt slabs on sub-concrete. When the through road from Waldwimmersbach was expanded in 1970, the west portal facing the road was closed and a new entrance was created on the south side. In 1974, the Oculi received stained glass inserts from Valentin Feuerstein with symbolic biblical motifs. In 1980 a toilet room was created in the entrance area. Another extensive renovation took place in 1983/84, whereby the church floor was again covered with sandstone slabs and the chancel was raised again by one step. At that time, the foundation walls of the Gothic predecessor building documented in 1494 were also documented. Instead of the pews, some loose seating was used and the church was again paneled.
In 2006 the last comprehensive interior renovation of the church took place. The old toilet with the vestibule was removed and replaced by a new combined supply block consisting of a vestibule, toilet, sacristy, cloakroom and sink. The gallery was revised, among other things, the gallery floor was renewed and the parapet was increased according to today's safety requirements. The church's heating and electrics were renewed. The interior painting of the church was based on the oldest color versions found with color-contrasting window reveals. The ceiling was painted with illusionistic mirror stucco. The barrel vault of the church originally had real stucco decorations, but these were lost during previous renovations and had long been replaced by illusion paintings on the gable ends.
The two-manual organ of the church was built in 1959 by Gebr. Mann in Marktbreit. In the roof turret there are three bells from 1922, 1925 and 1955.
The construction load for the roof turret, the belfry , the altar, the pulpit and the gallery lies with the Evangelical Foundation Care Schönau , the construction load for the organ, baptismal font , ambo , bells, stalls, other fixtures and the outdoor area lies with the parish. Further expenses, especially for the purpose of modernization, are borne jointly.
