The Protestant church is a listed church building in Budberg , a district of Rheinberg in the Wesel district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

A three-sided choir closure and a mighty west tower were added to a hall building from the 12th century consecrated to Saint Lambertus in the 15th century . The interior of the church was vaulted . In the 18th century the walls were raised and a flat ceiling was installed. At the same time, new windows were broken into. The building was restored in 1817. After minor war damage in World War II , renovations were carried out until 1949. In 1994/95 security measures were necessary.

The heavily patched outer walls still contain the quarry stone masonry of the Romanesque church , consisting of greywacke , tuff stone and quartzites . Inside are reused bricks and a tombstone fragment from a Roman ruins. The remains of the Romanesque arched windows are walled up. The Romanesque south portal with a lintel made of trachyte is still recognizable. The late Gothic tower under an eight-sided, kinked slate pyramid is bricked in irregular alternation of tuff and brick. It is structured by a window niche portal and tracery panels.
