Evangelical Church Burg (Herborn)
The Protestant church is a listed church building in Burg , a district of Herborn in the Lahn-Dill district ( Hesse ).
The hall building with the Romanesque apse of the same width stands on a steep rock above the Dill . Around 1840 it was heavily renovated and a very slender west tower was added. The west tower, whose circumferential eaves form a flat gable, dates from 1837–39. The deep west gallery continues on the south side like a hook.
There was a medieval castle on the Kirchberg. It was destroyed in the 13th century by the Nassau counts. At this time it secured the ancestral castle of the Dernbacher in the upper Aar valley, who were fighting for sovereignty with the Nassau counts. During road works above the Burger Church, remnants of the old castle wall were found in 1964. It was probably "tower foundations with a staircase".
