The Protestant parish church is a listed church building in Hilbeck , a district of Werl in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The building that defines the townscape is in the historical part of the village.

History and architecture

The church was originally dedicated to St. Sylvester . Both the tower and the hall were essentially built in the 12th century. The choir yoke with a 3/8 end dates from the 14th century. The Romanesque hall was built in green sandstone and partially flushed. Before the 19th century, the vault in the choir was replaced by a beam ceiling. The nave windows were enlarged in 1883, while the portals on the north side were walled up. An extensive renovation took place from 1960/61, at the same time the tower hall was opened to the ship by a double arcade on iron supports. Between chancel and nave are by a flying buttress onConsoles connected.

tower

The massive west tower is just as wide on the outside as the nave. Arched windows were installed in the tower in 1883 and the west portal was broken into. Before that there was only one slit window. One was made of the two basement floors and the beamed ceiling was removed. After the cement plaster was removed, the west wall was faced again in 1954. The sound openings were partially changed by removing pillars and walls.
