The Protestant church is a listed church building in Neuenrade in the Märkisches Kreis (North Rhine-Westphalia).

History and architecture

On the southern edge of the planned town there was a Marienkapelle, which was built around 1360. Parish rights were granted in 1366. The originally Catholic orientation lasted until 1564 when the reformer Hermann Wilken drafted the Neuenrader church ordinance and was thus oriented towards Protestantism.

The rectangular sermon hall was built in 1786/87. The older west tower was probably built in the 14th century. Its structural dimensions and the narrow windows underline its function as a defensive tower . Ashlar plaster was applied in 1904. The walls are divided by high arched windows. The porch fronts were added in 1927. A three-sided wooden gallery was drawn into the interior , on which there are old box stalls. The mirror ceiling is decorated with representations of angels. The pulpit organ prospectus with the curved galleries was built in with the new building of the nave.

Furnishing

  • The pulpit is a work of the 16th century. The rich carving shows the city coat of arms with St. Maria, embedded in a halo. The Neuhoff coats of arms are attached to the side.
  • The windows and the color scheme were carried out by Paul Thol in 1953 .

The organ was installed by Meyer from Herford from 1860 to 1865. In 1965 Gustav Steinmann Orgelbau created a new work behind the historic prospectus .
