The church in the district

The Protestant parish church in Ober-Mossau , a district of the community Mossautal in the Odenwald district in Hesse , was built in the high Middle Ages as the seat of a Johanniterkommende and became Protestant at the time of the Reformation . As a cultural monument , the church is a listed building .

history

The church was mentioned for the first time in 1253 and was once the seat of a Johanniterkommende who owned large estates in the surrounding towns: in both Mossau, in Rehbach, Steinbuch, Gersprenz, Ober-Kainsbach and Langen-Brombach. The Order of St. John settled at the instigation of the Erbach taverns, and the building of the church probably goes back to him. The order withdrew at the time of the Reformation and the church became Protestant. The parish was dissolved in 1557 and only re-established in 1849.
