Evangelical parish church in Mitterbach am Erlaufsee
The Evangelical Lutheran parish church in Mitterbach am Erlaufsee is located on the church square in the municipality of Mitterbach am Erlaufsee in the Lilienfeld district in Lower Austria . The parish church belongs to the Superintendentur AB Niederösterreich . The church is a listed building .
history
The building was erected in 1785 as a tolerance prayer house. In the middle of the 18th century, the Lilienfeld Abbey called Holzknechte to Ötscher . These were mostly secret Protestants from the Dachstein area . After the tolerance patent was issued, the prayer house was built by 1785 : a hall church facing east with a retracted semicircular closed choir and late baroque-early classicist structural elements. The altar is a donation from 1821. In 1849 a tower was added. In 1854 an organ by Theodor Koblitz was installed, in 1868 a tower clock and a marble font. The bells date from 1924. Extensive restoration work was carried out in 2016 (awarded the client's award from the Central Association of Architects in Austria 2017). In the process, new suspended galleries were drawn in, with the names of the first professing believers carved into the parapet according to the "Annaberger Protocols" from 1782.
Since Mitterbach was mostly Protestant until the 20th century and the relationship with the Catholic Church was strained, a Protestant cemetery was built in 1800 and a Protestant school in 1817. The latter was dissolved when Austria was annexed in 1938.
