Tolerance Church
Tolerance churches (usually referred to as tolerance prayer houses in Austria ) are Protestant churches that were built in the Habsburg Monarchy after 1781 on the basis of the tolerance patent of Emperor Josef II . These churches are now in Austria , the Czech Republic , Slovakia , Hungary , Poland and the Ukraine . The construction of the prayer houses was subject to strict regulations, most of them were rebuilt in the 19th century and given a church tower or replaced by a new building. Tolerance prayer houses were built by the Evangelical Lutheran Church , the Reformed (Calvinist) Church and the Bohemian Brothers Union .
The Protestant patent of 1861 then achieved full religious freedom and legal equality for the Protestant churches.
Abbreviations used: ev. = Evangelical, ref. = reformed, BB = Bohemian brothers
