Evaristus

Evaristus (* in the 1st century; † probably 105-107 in Rome ) was the fifth bishop of Rome (about 98-105). In the Catalogus Liberianus he is called Aristus .

Individual messages are not known from Evaristus. According to the Liber Pontificalis , he came from a family of Greek origin but had a Jewish father from Bethlehem . During the reign of the Roman Emperor Domitian he was elected to a leading position in the community leadership. The Liber Pontificalis also indicates that he in seven Rome diaconias , diaconiae , aufteilte. He is traditionally considered a martyr .

Evaristus' feast day is October 26th.

His name points to a Greek origin and means: the "Pleasant".
