In 1955, while still a student at Hunter College , she met Leonard Lauder on a blind date , whom she married in 1959. In 1960 the son William P. Lauder was born and in 1962 the son Gary. With the marriage, Evelyn Lauder entered the business of her husband's mother, Estée Lauder . At the time, the Estée Lauder Companies' range consisted of only six products and sales were a million dollars. Evelyn Lauder initially worked as a telephone operator in the company and was subsequently responsible for training the sales staff, developing perfumes and care products and marketing. Since 1989 she has held the titles of Senior Corporate Vice President (as a member of the Board of Directors ) and Head of Fragrance Development Worldwide (head of global perfume development). To do this, she had the idea of creating a pink ribbon as a symbol. Over the course of 18 years, she raised around $ 350 million in donations, helping researchers around the world. The Evely H. Lauder Breast Center, co-financed by Lauder and made possible by donations, has existed at New York Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center since 1992 . In 1993, she launched the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) in New York City, which provided $ 57 million in funding for cancer research in 2016 alone. Evelyn Lauder donated the proceeds from the sale of 'Pink Ribbon' cosmetic products from the Estée Lauder and Clinique brands to these organizations. The amateur photographer also published illustrated books with landscape photographs in 1992 ( Seasons Observed ) and 2002 ( An Eye for Beauty: Photographs of Evelyn Lauder ), the proceeds of which went to her foundations.
