Ever Francisco Hernández (born December 11, 1958 in Santiago de María , Usulután ), also known by the nickname La Gacela ( Eng . The Gazelle ) because of his speed , is a former Salvadoran football player on the position of a striker .

Life

society

“La Gacela” Hernández began his footballing career in the youth division of his home club CD Santiagueño , where he also received his first professional contract in 1975 . In 1978 he was promoted to the Primera División with Santiagueño . After a remarkable fourth place in the first division season 1978/79 Hernández won with Santiagueño in the following season 1979/80 for the first time the Salvadoran football championship. In the 1980/81 season, Hernández reached the finals against Atlético Marte with his club , but they were lost. After that, the championship round in El Salvador was switched to the calendar year and from now on things went downhill with Santiagueño. After a seventh place in the game year 1981, the team finished last in 1982 and was relegated. After relegation, Hernández, who had meanwhile matured to a national player, moved to Club Deportivo FAS , with whom he was runner-up behind the CD Águila in 1983 and again came to championship honors in 1984, when this time the CD Águila was relegated to second place.

National team

Between 1979 and 1985, Hernández completed a total of 34 missions for the Salvadoran national soccer team , in which he scored 13 goals. His most important goal, through which he became a national hero, he scored on November 6, 1981 in a qualifier for the 1982 World Cup in Spain . Because his goal to the 1-0 win against Mexico meant in the final statement that El Salvador took part in the World Cup and Mexico did not qualify. At the World Cup tournament, Hernández played the opening game of the Salvadorans in preliminary group 3 against Hungary , which ended 1:10 and is the highest and only double-digit defeat in World Cup history to this day .

Others

Hernández emigrated to the United States in 1990 because of the Salvadoran civil war raging in his home country .
