The Evergreen L-Class is a series of container ships operated by the Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen Marine .
history
The first 20 L-type ships were commissioned by several Evergreen Marine subsidiaries between July and September 2010 from the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje . In May 2011, the shipping company ordered a further ten ships of the type from the China Shipbuilding Corporation (CSBC) in Keelung . Samsung began delivering the first newbuildings in 2012, followed by the first CSBC ships in 2013. The L-Class ships are used on services between the Far East and Europe.
Due to their dimensions, the L-Class ships are classified as post-Panamax container ships. Since the completion of the new locks in 2016, however, they have been able to pass the Panama Canal and are therefore part of the Neopanamax container ships.
According to the classification society, this type of ship has a capacity of 8000 TEU for the first ships and 8488 TEU for later units, the shipping company gives slightly higher values of 8452 and 8508 TEU. 942 parking spaces can be filled with refrigerated containers. The ships have cargo holds equipped with cell guides that are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The deckhouse of the ships is about four fifths of the length aft. A special feature is the deck structure with two chimneys, which is typical for Evergreen ships, and extends over the entire width of the ship.
In terms of environmental protection, the ships tie in with the previously built Evergreen S-Class in many ways . The L-type hull was built with high-strength steel and designed with a view to reducing the amount of ballast water and for slow steaming operation. The drive motors of the type MAN B&W 9K98ME-7 with electronically controlled injection should enable low exhaust gas emissions.
