Evert Jan Boks (born April 18, 1839 in Beekbergen , † June 14, 1914 in Antwerp ) was a Dutch-Belgian genre and portrait painter.

Evert Jan Boks was of wealthy origin. His father, Derk Boks (1791–1862), owned a paper mill and had seven children. Evert Jan attended a school in Apeldoorn and then worked in a tax office.

He studied at the Hooge Burgerschool in Het Loo , was briefly a student of Nicolaas Pieneman in Amsterdam and enrolled in 1858 at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp , where he became a student of Nicaise de Keyser . In 1863 he was awarded the Grand Prize and also received the Rome Prize , which enabled him to stay in Italy .

After graduating, he worked as a portrait and genre painter in Antwerp. His genre pictures mostly showed comical or sentimental scenes from the life of the bourgeoisie.

He worked closely with two Antwerp art dealers who bought his works: Albert D'Huyvetter senior and his son Albert junior, and also with the art dealer Delahaye. Many of his works have been sold in the United States .
