Ewald Kooiman

Ewald Kooiman (born June 14, 1938 in Wormer ( Netherlands ), † January 25, 2009 in Hurghada ( Egypt )) was a Dutch organist .

Life

Ewald Kooiman studied organ in Amsterdam with Piet Kee and in Paris with Jean Langlais . He was also a qualified Romanist. He recorded the entire organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach twice on historical organs on CD and record. Kooiman began a third complete recording in April 2008 on Alsatian Silbermann organs, but less than half of which had been recorded at the time of his death. At the Free University of Amsterdam he taught as a professor for organ art and at the International Summer Academy in Haarlem he taught the interpretation of Bach's organ works.

Kooiman has taught as a visiting professor at universities in several European countries, in South Africa and Korea. He has published more than 50 volumes of organ music from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries in the well-known Incognito Organo and Repro Organo series. Kooiman became known worldwide through his intensive preoccupation with early music, especially with the interpretation of Bach's organ works. In numerous specialist publications he has dealt with authentic Bach interpretations and source research on organ music.

Ewald Kooiman died on January 25th, 2009 while on vacation in Egypt.
