Ewald Lanwer

Ewald Lanwer (born August 29, 1908 in Recklinghausen ; † September 30, 1969 in Dorsten ) was a German diplomat during the National Socialist era and in the Federal Republic of Germany .

Life

After attending the secondary school in Recklinghausen, Lanwer studied law and economics in Münster and Berlin from 1928 to 1931 . In Münster he became a member of the Catholic student union KStV Ravensberg. From August 1931 he worked as a government trainee in the Prussian judicial service and received his doctorate in December 1933. On May 1, 1933 , he joined the NSDAP and the SA . In October 1935 he was drafted into the Foreign Service and trained at the Consulate General in Katowice . After the outbreak of war in 1939, but before the German invasion of Denmark and Norway in April 1940, he worked in the consulates in Bergen and Haugesund . In occupied Denmark , Lanwer headed the consulate in Aabenraa from June 17, 1940 to July 1943 , where he supported the north Schleswig ethnic group leader Jens Möller . From March 1945 to October 1945 he was a US prisoner of war. Nothing is known about its denazification . Lanwer was interviewed in Denmark in 1946 about German occupation policy.

From January 1946 Lanwer worked for the city administration of Datteln and from March 1946 as city ​​and office director at the city and office administration Haltern , since July 1950 at the office administration Haltern . During this time he also held the office of mayor from 1946 to 1950.

In December 1953 Lanwer was reinstated in the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Germany and headed the consulate in Winnipeg until 1959 , and from 1959 the consulate general in Liège . From 1961 he was head of division in the development policy department in the Foreign Office and was finally still from 1965 as counselor 1st class at the OECD in Paris , when he was retired in 1969 due to illness.
