Ewelina Nowicka (* 1982 in Gdansk ) is a Polish violinist and composer .

Life

Ewelina Nowicka comes from a family of artists and so came into contact with acting very early on. Her parents are both actors, especially her mother Wanda Neumann can be seen in many Polish post-war films. Her paternal grandmother, Sabina Nowicka , was a co-founder and first director of the Great Theater in Łódź .

Ewelina Nowicka attended the state music school in Gdańsk, where she graduated from high school and then went to Hamburg to study at the University of Music and Theater in 2002 . She completed her violin studies in the class of Prof. Petru Munteanu in 2007 and then studied the concert exam at the University of the Arts in Bremen with Katrin Scholz . She is a member of the German Composers' Association and GEDOK- Hamburg.

Music and composition

Throughout her youth she received continuous violin and composition lessons. At the age of 16 she made her debut as a soloist with the orchestra of the Baltic Philharmonic in Gdansk and continues her solo career with many other orchestras to this day. Although she did not complete a degree in composition, composing is just as important to her as playing instrumental. As an instrumental musician as well as a composer, she has received awards in both national and international competitions. Among other things, her CD with pieces for violin and piano by composer Mieczysław Weinberg was nominated for the Polish Fryderyk Music Prize in the chamber music category in 2014 .

Stylistically, your music can be assigned to the experiments and idiosyncrasies of New Music , but is also partly oriented towards Jewish culture, with which your family history is intertwined, partly in a tragic way. This is also evident from the motifs and titles of some of her works. She is now under contract as a composer at Verlag Neue Musik .
