Ewigi Liäbi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ewigi Liäbi is a Swiss dialect song that was registered in 2000 and has been the greatest success of the Swiss band Mash to this day. The band never released the song as a single, but it is still a perennial hit on Swiss radio stations and is known to most German-speaking Swiss.

The singer Padi Bernhard originally wrote the song in 1995 for his girlfriend at the time. It was then the last song on the album «mash.nidvobärn». Neither radio presenters nor journalists consider the song to have a particular hit potential, it was only after several listeners' requests that the song became what it is today.

The song sold over 40,000 times on the album “mash.nidvobärn” and was voted fifth most popular in 2006 and second most popular Swiss dialect song in 2007 (after winning the “Lovesongs” category in The Biggest Swiss Hits ). In contrast to many other Swiss song classics, it is not sung in Bern German , but in the Schwyz dialect.

The ballad has simple harmonies and is subtly orchestrated with piano (main instrument, continuous) and acoustic guitar (in the background, after the second chorus with a solo).

Since downloads without a published single have been included in the official Swiss charts since the end of 2006 , the song by Mash also made it into the singles chart on December 31, 2006.

Cover versions

  • The band QL released a fun punk version of the song. With the QL version, Carmen Fenk won the first season of the Swiss television casting show MusicStar .
  • In 2007, the song appeared in a yodel version on the CD Mey Freyd of yodelling clubs Wiesenberg from Dallenwil and helped the Jodlerklub for entry into the official Swiss album hit parade (highest classification 4th place).
  • On the occasion of the national celebration on August 1, 2009 in Brunnen SZ , Padi Bernhard sang the song accompanied by the Brunnen Musikgesellschaft, which replaced the piano and all other background instruments, under the direction of Michael Schlüssel. The arranger of this version was the Brunner teacher and musician Bernd Pfeiffer.
