The Metro Station Exelmans is a station on the line 9 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier d' Auteuil in the 16th arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the Rue Michel-Ange at the intersection with the Boulevard Exelmans.

Surname

The name gives the Boulevard Exelmans. The brigadier Rémi Joseph Isidore Exelmans (1775-1852) was in the battles at Prussian Eylau and at Ligny involved. During the battle at Rocquencourt on July 1, 1815, he defeated part of the Prussian army . In 1851 he was by Napoleon III. appointed Marshal of France .

History and description

The station opened on November 8, 1922. On that day, the 3.5 km long first section of line 9 from Trocadéro to Exelmans went into operation. Until September 29, 1923, the station was the southwest end point of the line.

It was built by the CMP railway company and is 75 m long. The two tracks and the side platforms lie under white-tiled, elliptical vaults, the side walls follow their curvature.

The two entrances are on the south side of Boulevard Exelmans on both sides of Rue Michel-Ange. They are marked by candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the style of Art Deco .

vehicles

Line 9 is operated with conventional vehicles that run on steel rails. Initially, trains of the Sprague-Thomson type , which were last used there, ran. In 1983 the MF 67 series was launched . The MF 01 series has been increasingly used since October 2013, and the last MF 67 train ran on line 9 on December 14, 2016.

The Parc des Princes rugby and football stadium is nearby .
