The Bibelwerk Linz is an educational institution of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Linz .

In the organizational structure of the Diocese of Linz, the Biblical Works Linz is a department of the pastoral office in the field of education and culture - without its own legal personality.

The institution cooperates with the relevant departments of the Austrian dioceses , with the Austrian Catholic Biblical Works and with other similar institutions in German-speaking countries, in particular with the Catholic Biblical Works in Stuttgart , the Biblical Pastoral Office in Zurich, the German Catechists Association in Munich and numerous theological faculties.

Biblical Works Linz opens up access to the Bible for many people through its pastoral offerings . The basis of this work is, on the one hand, the current state of biblical studies and, on the other hand, methods of contemporary adult education that want to enable people to reflect on the world in a responsible and responsible manner.

The Biblical Works Linz thus fulfills the guidelines for the Upper Austrian Seal of Quality for Adult Education (EBQ) and was last certified accordingly in 2019. The educational institution is a member of the Forum of Catholic Adult Education in Austria and an associated member of the worldwide Catholic Biblical Federation.

history

The initiator was Alois Wagner , commissioned by Bishop Franz Zauner , who, in the spirit of optimism at the Second Vatican Council, brought together individual projects such as the correspondence course for Faith and Faith Information in 1964 with the Linz Biblical Works. Based on correspondence courses in the Bible, products in the Bible study that were noticed throughout the German-speaking area were significantly (co) developed in Linz over the course of time. a. the traveling bible exhibition “Expedition Bible”, “Herder's New Biblical Lexicon”, the “Family Bible” and numerous books and materials for bible pastoral implementation in the parishes. Biblical Works Linz is a pioneer in the use of digital media in Bible study.

Advice and support for full-time employees and volunteers

Bible study

Personal advice in the Bible work as well as telephone and written support on Biblical topics are among the main tasks of the Bible work. About 120 Bible study groups in the parishes of the Diocese of Linz are in contact with the Linz Biblical Association. A volunteer Bible team with representatives from the various regions of the diocese and the Catholic Private University Linz accompanies the work of the Linz Biblical Works in an advisory capacity. A quarterly magazine (Linzer Bibelsaat) and digital mailings (monthly newsletter ) keep those interested in the Bible informed about biblical events, news in the biblical landscape and new publications on the book market. Biblical staff regularly write reviews, preparations for services and articles for church newspapers and authoritative biblical pastoral and liturgical magazines and are active in the editorial team of the magazine “Bibel heute”.

Bible courses

Bible evenings in the parishes are mainly held with the Catholic Educational Organization. The Linz Bible course with four evenings has been held in parallel in around 25 parishes since 2011 and reaches around 500 participants annually. The Biblical Works Linz has been offering basic Bible courses in the Bildungshaus Schloss Puchberg since 1993 , and since 2007 also in the Bildungshaus Greisinghof . Bibelwerk Linz has been the organizer of the Bible Pastoral Study Conference in the Bildungshaus Schloss Puchberg since 2013.

Traveling expedition Bible exhibition

The first Bible exhibitions took place after the Council together with the Evangelical Bible Society. Independent Bible exhibitions were held from 1969 and supplemented with a knowledge-oriented exhibition in the 1980s.

The Bible exhibition Expedition Bible. Discover our Bible - with all the senses was conceived by the Linz Biblical Works together with the Salzburg Bible Department as a traveling exhibition and presented for the first time in autumn 2001. In the meantime, eleven copies are on the road in the entire German-speaking area (Austria, Germany, Switzerland, South Tyrol) and the exhibition has also been shown at several major events such as Church and Catholic Days as well as in Jerusalem.

Parts of the exhibition have been translated into Belarusian . In addition to information boards for adults and children, the exhibition lives primarily through an experience-oriented and experience-oriented orientation. Numerous objects and games encourage a meaningful understanding of biblical topics. On June 7, 2015, the 800,000th visitor was welcomed to Bad Hall. The 900,000th visitor is expected shortly. Around 200 exhibitions were supervised from Linz.

Linz correspondence courses

Around 30,000 people have completed these courses since 1964. The Linz correspondence courses have long been regarded as the mainstay of the Linz Biblical Works. In addition to two courses on the Old and New Testament, correspondence courses on prayer and worship are offered.

Weltanschauung issues

The advisor for ideological issues is also administratively assigned to the biblical work. In the last few years, the brochure Check Your Perspective , which is distributed in the German-speaking area with more than 100,000 copies, has been developed.
