The Experimental Pop Band is a British music formation from Bristol around the singer-songwriter Davey Woodward and emerged from The Brilliant Corners in 1995 , two years after their breakup.
Members
The band consists of Davey Woodward ( vocals and guitar ), Joe Rooney ( synthesizer ), Keith Baily ( drums ) and Phil Wilmott ( bass ), who replaced Christopher Galvin , who died in 1998 of cancer .
Band history
After their experience with The Brilliant Corners (1984-1993), Davey Woodward and Chris Galvin founded the band in 1995, initially under the name "South West Experimental Pop Band" as a pure studio project. When they were able to recruit more musicians for their first singles, the band soon developed a life of their own and did their first gigs. As the programmatic band name suggests, they play a crossover of different styles ( trip-hop , alternative rock , Britpop , electronica , funk ) and claim to have anticipated the iPod insofar as no track on their albums is the other and seems to be played by different bands.
Their first album Discgrotesque was created in 1997 when the label Swarfinger and appeared in Germany on Bungalow Records . With 40 Greatest Hits they landed a hit in the indie scene in 1998 , while they have so far been denied a major commercial breakthrough. The creation and release of their second album Homesick (1999 on City Slang Records ) was overshadowed by Chris Galvin's death on December 22, 1998. They toured Europe with Mark Barber on bass and recorded the third album ( The Tracksuit Trilogy ) produced by John Parish in 2001 . In 2004, after a long break, Tarmac and Flames appeared on Cooking Vinyl with the new bassist Phil Wilmott , also produced by John Parish.
On June 8, 2007, Triumphant Sound Records released her fifth album, Tinsel Stars , from which the single Can You Explain This? was decoupled.
