Explosions in the Sky is an American post-rock - band . The members are Munaf Rayani ( guitar ), Mark Smith (guitar), Michael James ( bass ) and Chris Hrasky ( drums ).
history
Explosions in the Sky was founded in 1999 in Austin , Texas . The four members, all of whom are film fans, met at the beginning of the year in a restaurant called “Milto's Pizza Pub”, got along straight away and then met for a first jam session in April . This was very successful and the band played their first appearance in front of an audience in August 1999.
The band name was created on July 4th, 1999, inspired by fireworks on the occasion of the Independence Day celebrations .
On January 23, 2000 the first official show took place in "Emo's" in Austin, on November 8, 2000 the first appearance outside of Austin in "Rubber Gloves" in Denton . In autumn 2000 the band recorded the score for the independent film Cicadas (director: Kat Candler). She made her first appearance in Europe in December 2001, followed by her first tour in Europe in September 2002, the highlight of which was an appearance in London with John Peel . The first shows in Asia were two appearances in Taiwan in November 2002 .
