List of grape varieties

Ezerjó (German: Tausendgut ) is an autochthonous Hungarian white wine variety . It was cultivated in large parts of the Carpathian Basin in the 19th century , but can only be found in a few regions of Hungary today. The best-known growing area is the Mór wine-growing region , from which the Móri Ezerjó comes.

The large, thick-skinned berries of the Ezerjó form large grapes and take on a reddish color when fully ripe. The grape variety ripens early and is known for its high yield, but is also sensitive to frost and susceptible to botrytis . The wines are generally pale green in color and have a fairly high alcohol content and high acidity . They taste fresh, but with the exception of Móri Ezerjó, they are also called "meaningless" by wine critics. In Mór, quartz-rich limestone soils favor the Ezerjó, which Hugh Johnson counts as one of the best dry white wines in the country. In addition to dry whites can from the Ezerjó in good vintages and documents using the noble rot and sweet wines are obtained.

origin

Ezerjó originally comes from northern Hungary, but has been grown in the Mór area since the Middle Ages. In the 19th and first half of the 20th century, it was one of the most widespread grape varieties in Hungary. In 1970 the area under vines was 14,000 hectares, since then it has declined sharply and was 1655 hectares in 2008.
