Fátima Lopes (fashion designer)
Fátima Lopes (born March 8, 1965 in Funchal ) is a Portuguese fashion designer .
Life
Already as a teenager she was interested in fashion and made clothes herself, out of dissatisfaction with the range of shops in Madeira . Thanks to her language skills, she worked as a tour guide in Madeira before moving to Lisbon in 1990 . She and a friend opened a boutique called Versus on Avenida de Roma selling imported fashion. When she said she couldn't find anything she liked in shopping for her boutique in Paris in 1992 , she began to design and sell fashion herself. From now on the shop was called Fátima Lopes .
Fátima Lopes has been present at Paris fashion shows since 1994 and opened her own branch there in 1996. During that time she expanded the range of products she designed and subsequently also offered shoes, lingerie and leather goods that she had designed herself . In 1998 she moved into a building on Rua Atalaia in Lisbon's Bairro Alto , where she housed a shop, a night club, an atelier, a fashion studio and a modeling agency.
In March 1999 she was the first designer from Portugal at the Paris Fashion Week , and has since presented her new creations there twice a year. In 2000 the most expensive bikini in the world she designed caused a sensation in Paris. She herself showed the 4.7 kilogram bikini made with gold and precious stones valued at over a million dollars on the catwalk in Paris. Since 2001 it has expanded its range of self-designed products and a. to jewelry, home textiles, porcelain, glasses and writing implements. Since 2004 she has designed the clothing for the Portuguese national soccer team . In spring 2012 she opened the Paris Fashion Week, as in the previous year.
In 2006, its President Jorge Sampaio awarded the Order of Infante Dom Henrique in the commanding class. Today, Fatima Lopes is considered the most successful and international entrepreneur in the Portuguese fashion industry.

Through her appearances in television programs, including as a presenter of fashion programs and model casting shows, she is a well-known personality in Portugal, also among the general public. Thanks to her strong presence in the media and the international fashion industry, she has now replaced Ana Salazar in the role of Portugal's most important fashion designer.
Her fashion is considered innovative in the industry and is known to be particularly figure-hugging and eager to show. She often uses fur and leather as materials. She came under fire for her statement that she used real animal fur and leather and that criticism of it was absurd.
