Fédéric Morel

Fédéric Morel the Younger (also Frédéric Morel , Federicus Morellus ; * 1552 in Châlon ; † June 27, 1630 ) was one of the most important Graecists and patrologists of his time and is particularly known for his editions and translations by apologists, church fathers, ancient philosophers and writers .

Life

Federic Morel the Elder J. is the son of Federic Morel the Elder. Ä. (1523 in Champagne - 1583), who came from an upscale family and married the daughter of the famous printer Michel de Vascosan around 1550 , then opened his shop in 1557 in rue Saint Jean de Beavais, became a royal printer in 1571 and a. a. published the Declamationes Quintilians and the script on architecture by Philibert Delorme . Federic Morel the Elder J. continued his father's company. He became professor of rhetoric at the Collège de France .

Works

Morel edited, translated and commented a. a. Works by Aristotle , Dio Chrysostom , Strabo , Plutarch , Maximus Tyrius , Libanius , Hierocles , Theodoret . He also wrote a commentary on the Psalms. His edition of Christian apologists of the 2nd century, Corpus Apologetarum , first published in Paris in 1615, then in 1636 and 1686 in Wittenberg, is particularly well known .
