Fürstenfeld is a song by the Austrian music group STS from 1984. It appeared for the first time as the fifth track on the second album Überdosis G'fühl and is 5 minutes and 22 seconds long. It entered the Austrian charts on August 1, 1984 and lasted 14 weeks, of which 6 weeks in a row were number 1.

background

Due to poor sales figures, the group considered in early 1984 to split up at the end of the year. The record company Amadeo had heard the band's demo tapes during this time and was convinced of them, which is why they decided to finance the LP Überdose G'fühl . Originally there should only be ten tracks on the album, but the record company was of the opinion that there was still room for one song. It was exactly this additional song that became Fürstenfeld. With the album and the song, they finally achieved their breakthrough.

The original song With a Little Help was composed in 1982 by the East Styrian musician Josef Jandrisits . With the permission of Jandrisits, it was then revised by Schiffkowitz and given a new text in the Styrian dialect.

action

The song is about a Styrian musician in the big city of Vienna . He thought that his music would make a big splash in Vienna, but his dream burst like a soap bubble and he had nothing but a few schillings . As a street musician on Kärntner Straße , he is now trying to get enough money to just come back to his home in Fürstenfeld , since he has had enough of the big world.

According to his statement in the song, Vienna did not deserve it at all, which is why from now on he will only play in the towns of Graz , Sinabelkirchen and Stinatz . The individual stanzas also refer to Vienna and the Viennese scene.

Video

The video and the song consist of two parts. The first part lasts about 1 minute and 30 seconds and shows the group singing over the musician on a roof in Vienna without instrumental accompaniment. The second part shows the musician himself singing for donations in Vienna. He walks across the forecourt of St. Stephen's Cathedral with his guitar case and begins to sing in a square in Vienna. His guitar case lies in front of him to collect donations for the train ride home. In contrast to the studio recording, the video is underlined twice with the sentence “Steirerbluat is koa Nudlsuppn” (a variant of the winged wordSteirerblut is not raspberry juice ”) during a harmonica part .

The end of the video shows the members of the group at the Vienna Südbahnhof (later replaced by Vienna Central Station and the starting point for the trip to Graz).
