The Fürstenhof is a historic building in the Hanover district of Calenberger Neustadt . Today it houses offices of the Hanover regional church office of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

It should not be confused with the Princely House of Herrenhausen in Hanover-Herrenhausen .

history

The building is also known as the Osnabrücker Hof after its previous owner, Ernst August von Hannover , Bishop of Osnabrück . The plastered half-timbered building with three full storeys over a massive vaulted basement and hipped roof was built in 1673 for the secret secretary and land manager Jonas von Rettberg. In 1714 Duke Ernst August bought it, who used it as his residence during his stays in Hanover. In 1737, the Braunschweig-Lüneburg Minister Gerlach Adolph von Münchhausen , co-founder of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, lived here .

The current building has been the farm's guest house since 1755. In 1817/18 it was rebuilt by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves . In 1818/19 it was the residence of the Duke of Clarence , and later of the Crown Prince Georg . Only since 1822 has the house been called the “Fürstenhof”. In 1845 the last Hanoverian Crown Prince Ernst August was born in it. From 1855 it was used by the military administration for the business of the adjutant general. After the First World War it was an officer's residence, from 1943 occupied by a medical department and the municipal planning office, 1945 to 1949 by a pharmaceutical factory and from 1949 to 1954 by the office of the motor vehicle transport company.

Until after the Second World War , the house was owned by the city of Hanover. In 1954, the by then detached and has been air attacks on Hanover little damaged buildings sold Lutheran Evangelical Church to the state, which with the built in close proximity to the Red series Landeskirchenamt association. In 1957, the Office for Building and Art Maintenance of the regional church and the Chamber for Church Art moved into it.
