Fürstenwalde West is a former district of the Brandenburg city of Fürstenwalde / Spree . The location is now part of the Hangelsberg district of the Grünheide (Mark) community .

geography

The location is on Landesstraße 38 . Surrounding localities are Althangelsberg immediately adjacent in the west, the village Trebus in the north, the city Fürstenwalde / Spree in the east and in the south, south of the Spree , the village Braunsdorf . Fürstenwalde-West is completely surrounded by Fürstenwalder Stadtforst in the north and east and borders on the Fürstenwalder Spree in the south .

history

prehistory

The local situation was created in 1912 at the request of Emperor Wilhelm II. As gardens and woodlands City Fürstenwalde-West in the field of forestry coalfield Small Heath of Fürstenwalder city forest.

Reasons for the development of a settlement on the area of the current location were, among other things, the proximity to Hangelsberg, which already had a noticeably developed infrastructure (shops, roads, rail connection) necessary for the construction of the settlement, and the location of the future district in the middle of the woods.

Construction and settlement

For the purpose of building this forest settlement in the then expanding town of Fürstenwalde, a contract for the acquisition and development of the area was concluded on July 5, 1912 between the Fürstenwalde mayor Friedrich Zeidler and the Wald- und Gartenstadt-Terraingesellschaft mbH Fürstenwalde .

From 1914, the developer company planned not only to designate parcels for private individuals, but also to set up social and traffic infrastructure. Many of these plans were not implemented. For example, plans for the construction of a primary school were unsuccessful, so that school-age children from Fürstenwalde West had to attend the Hangelsberg primary school. Plans for the construction of a train stop at the northern end of the Unsal road also came to nothing.

However, Fürstenwalde West had its own local brigade of the Fürstenwald volunteer fire brigade (whose fire station was built at Berliner Strasse 27), its own daycare center and an office of the Fürstenwald city administration.

As in the example of the fire brigade, there were two different fire brigades within a few kilometers, assigned to different fire protection agencies (Hangelsberg and Fürstenwalde West), although when crossing the Hangelsberg / Fürstenwalde West area it was not possible to determine that one was going through two traveled to different places.

Development after the Second World War and consolidation

Due to the long distance of the district from the Fürstenwalder core city and because of the immediate proximity of the place to the neighboring town Hangelsberg, the population of Fürstenwalde West voted in a residents' meeting on March 18, 1956 with 51 to 27 votes for the incorporation of the district into the Hangelsberg community .

The Fürstenwalde city council decided on May 11, 1956 unanimously to form the district of Fürstenwalde West from the city of Fürstenwalde, which was confirmed on June 28, 1956 by the Fürstenwalde district council in resolution no. 10/56.

On July 26, 1956, the City Council of Fürstenwalde gave the municipality of Hangelsberg sovereignty over the Fürstenwalde West area and the associated documents and values.

The municipal area of the city of Fürstenwalde was reduced by the inhabited parts and the cemetery of Fürstenwalde West, while the forest areas of the Kleine Heide directly adjacent to the town remained in the municipal area of the city.

History from 1990

After the re-establishment of the state of Brandenburg, a district reform took place in 1993, in which the Fürstenwalde district was merged into the new Oder-Spree district. The Hangelsberg community was assigned to the Grünheide office. In 2003 there was a municipal area reform, in the course of which the municipalities of the office Grünheide merged on October 26, 2003 to form the new municipality Grünheide (Mark).
