FC Rovereto is an Italian football club in the city of Rovereto , which has almost 40,000 inhabitants and is in the province of Trentino . As biggest success of the club, the nine-year-old's season is the third highest class series C . The club has played almost continuously in the regional amateur leagues since the mid-1970s.

history

Early years

In 1878 the association was founded as l'Unione Ginnastica Roveretana , but was later dissolved again. In June 1919, however, the former athlete Diego Costa re-founded the club under the name Unione Sportiva Rovereto , and in 1921 the football department was opened. In the following years the club participated in the regional leagues with sometimes greater, sometimes less success. The most notable success of this era is the achievement of first place in the 1939/40 season from the then fourth-class Liga Prima Divisione Tridentina , which would have promoted them to Serie C , but Rovereto voluntarily renounced promotion.

From the establishment of Serie D in 1959 they played up to and including the 1968/69 season and rose in the latter season as first place and with 48 points again in Serie C. For three seasons, FC Rovereto held the class and occupied places mostly in the lower midfield, before they had to relegate back to Serie D in the 1972/73 season as 18th and third from last place. 32 points were not enough for relegation, 17th place Vigevano Calcio only had one point more. The biggest win of the season was also a 4-0 against relegated USD Città di Cossato.

Modern times

After returning to the fourth-class Series D, the downward slide slowly but surely continued its course. While you could just prevent the class in the 1975/76 season with one point distance to the relegation place, you had to go to the 5th league in 16th place in the following season, although you with 31 points as many points as the 15th place Benacense Riva had, however Rovereto had to relegate in the end due to the worse goal difference.

FC Rovereto ended the 2000/01 season as champions in the Trentino-Aldo Adige group of Eccellenza and returned to Serie D with 63 points for the first time in more than 20 years, where, however, after only one season, they were beaten last again in the 5th division was relegated. Once in the 5th league, the club could not hold the class here either and was passed through to the promozione , categorically the 6th league, before they could catch up again in the 2003/04 season, play an outstanding season and as champion, 71 points and only one defeat rose directly back to the 5th division.

After several years of playing with mostly adequate results, they were relegated to the 6th division in 2012, and in 2014 they even had to accept relegation to the 7th division. In 2016, the association had to file for bankruptcy and therefore re-established itself on July 1, 2016 under its current name, replacing the old name US Rovereto , the original founding date of 1919 was retained in the logo, and the colors white and black were also adopted. Due to the bankruptcy and the resulting re-establishment, FC Rovereto had to start the 2016/17 season in the 8th league, which is the lowest class in which FC Rovereto has ever participated. But here you could celebrate two ascents in a row as first place and have been playing in the Promozione again since 2018.
