The FFH area Blixmoor is a NATURA 2000 protected area in Schleswig-Holstein in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in the municipality of Wees . The FFH area is located in the fishing natural area , which, according to the landscape profile of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, is one of the "landscapes of minor importance". The FFH area has an area of 29 hectares. The largest extent is in a west-east direction and is 1 km. It is the northern part of a closed forest area south of the district Himmershoi of the municipality Wees in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. The Schleswig-Holstein State Forests, as an institution under public law, are the owners of the entire FFH area . In the northeast of the FFH area lies Blixmoor, which is completely enclosed by forest. In the eastern part this consists of a small and a large moor pond as an open water surface and in the western part of a transitional moor. The body of water has number 96 in the list of FFH areas according to RL 92/43 / EEC the code DE_PH_1123-392. The southern half of the FFH area is home to various types of forest with some small bodies of water, see inventory maps

FFH area history and nature conservation area

The NATURA 2000 standard data sheet for this FFH area was created in June 2004 by the State Office for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas (LLUR) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, proposed in September 2004 as an area of Community importance (GGB), in November Confirmed by the EU as GGB in 2007 and confirmed nationally as a special conservation area (BEG) in January 2010 according to Section 32 Paragraphs 2 to 4 BNatSchG in conjunction with Section 23 LNatSchG. It is in the priority area “Weesries and Blixmoor State Forests” (No. 543) of the biotope network system. In the west it borders on the landscape protection area (LSG) Vogelsang-Trögelsby of the city of Flensburg for a length of 200 m . In the north-west is the nature reserve (NSG) Twedter Feld, approx. 750 m as the crow flies . This in turn is almost entirely part of the FFH area coastal areas of the Flensburg Fjord from Flensburg to Geltinger Birk .

FFH conservation object

As of March 3, 2020, the European Environment Agency was notified:

8 FFH habitat types according to Annex I FFH Directive, see also inventory map :

2 FFH types according to Annex II and IV FFH Directive:

1 other type:

20 to 100 specimens of the moor frog were reported to the EU. In the management plan of the Ministry for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, there are comments on species sightings of plants and animals from the 1980s.

FFH conservation objectives

The following FFH conservation objectives were defined and described in more detail from the FFH conservation objects:

6 objectives for habitat types of particular importance :

  • Dystrophic lakes and ponds
  • Transitional and swinging lawn bogs
  • Peat bog ditches
  • Grove beech forest
  • Woodruff beech forest
  • Bog forests

3 goals for habitat types and types of importance :

  • Chickweed-oak-hornbeam forest
  • Old acid oak forests with English oaks on sandy soils
  • Northern crested newt

FFH analysis and assessment

The chapter Analysis and Assessment deals with the history of origin, geology, archeology, hydrology and the current conditions of the FFH area Blixmoor, see management plan.

FFH catalog of measures

A catalog of measures was developed from the analysis and evaluation, in which a sheet of measures was created for each measure. A map with the areas affected by the individual measures supplements the catalog of measures.

FFH success control and monitoring of the measures

In Schleswig-Holstein, the implementation of the measures is randomly checked every 6 years. The next update is due in 2021.

In July 2020, the implementation status of the proposed measures is as follows: The erection of multilingual fishing prohibition signs on the moor pond bank did not take place, but in July 2020 the state forestry put up the first signs pointing to the Blixmoor on the northeast and on the eastern edge of the large moor lake. They point out the ecological importance of the Blixmoor and the rules of conduct that apply to visitors, see picture gallery. However, it is practically no longer possible to step onto the pond bank on the muddy bottom and it is also life-threatening. The erection of no- entry signs for the vibrating lawn along the peat dam has not taken place. The erection of prohibition signs against entering the nature trails and off the trails in Blixmoor with dogs has also not taken place. The cutting back of the moor birch population on the swinging lawn has been carried out except for a small remainder. The trunks and trunks were distributed at the edge of the forest as a barrier against entry and the rest were piled up in two large piles to rot. The erection of a viewing platform on the north-western edge of the bog pond has not taken place. The use of the FFH area and beyond that of the entire forest area of the Weesrieser wood as a wood extraction area by the Schleswig-Holstein State Forests has been discontinued except for a few areas. The forest is largely natural and is left to its own devices. Wind break and dying trees are no longer removed. The nature trails off the forest roads are becoming more and more inaccessible. Thus, most of the visitors only move on the well-developed forest roads. On the forest roads, small signs on the edges of the forest indicate that you are entering the Schleswig-Holstein state forests. On April 19, 2020, there was a fire in Blixmoor. Large areas of the vibrating turf bog fell victim to the flames. The blueberry bushes along the peat dam have been completely destroyed, see picture below.
