FK Comae Berenices is a spectral class G star at a distance of about 700  light years . It is the prototype of the FK-Comae-Berenices stars , which belong to the rotation variable stars . The star shows what is known as flip-flop behavior.

The apparent brightness of the stars fluctuates between 8.03 and 8.43 with a period of 2.4 days. The variability was noted in 1966.
