The FLOSS Manuals ( FM ) is a non-profit foundation . It focuses on the creation of qualitative documentation on the use of free software . It was founded in the Netherlands in 2006 by Adam Hyde.

construction

Your website is a wiki (formerly used by TWiki software, now you are developing an autonomous platform with Booki) focused on the collaborative writing of manuals. The documentation is licensed under the GPL . Although the manuals were initially covered by the GFDL , the license was changed. Reason for the concerns about the limitation and the "non-free nature" of the GFDL.

Anyone can contribute to the material in FLOSS Manuals. Each manual has a maintainer - very similar to the Debian maintenance system. The maintenance engineer always has an eye on his manual and discusses with those who are interested in the manual, structure, choice of words, etc. Editing does not take place in real time, but all changes are published as soon as the manual is ready. This is done to ensure a high quality of reliable manuals.

Manuals are available as indexed PDF or online in HTML , and these can also be mixed together. With this function everyone can create an individual manual and export it as PDF, HTML ( ZIP / tar ) or an Ajax include.

Awards

In autumn 2007 FLOSS Manuals was awarded a prize of 15,000 euros by the Dutch Digital Pioneer Fund.
The foundation has also received funding from Google and NLnet for their services.
FLOSS Manuals also received the Transmediale Award for their work on Booki.
