The steam locomotive series SB 32f was a series of steam locomotives operated by the Südbahngesellschaft (SB), a private Austrian-Hungarian railway company .

The SB needed powerful locomotives for heavy passenger and mail trains that were to be used in the mountain and hill country. Double-coupled machines seemed too weak for this, so that triple-coupled locomotives were considered. A front bogie seemed appropriate because of the tight curve radii. The locomotive factory of the StEG , the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik and the Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf delivered a total of 27 pieces of 2'C locomotives from 1896 to 1898, which were designated as series 32f and the company numbers 1701–1727. The machines had inner frames and Heusinger controls.

The locomotives were stationed in Bolzano (eleven), Trieste (13) and Gloggnitz (three). However, they have only proven themselves in the lowlands, on the mountain routes they were soon replaced by the SB 170 .

In 1923 two units (1701 and 1707) were converted to superheated steam . The vapor pressure was increased to 14 atm and the cylinder diameter was now 520 mm. A Lentz valve control was also installed.

In 1924, 16 units came to Italy as the FS 652 series , where they were retired between 1928 and 1931, and eleven units to Yugoslavia , of which only three were given the series designation JDŽ 109 . The Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the Yugoslav machines as 38.5. The 38.502 (JDŽ 109-002, SB 32f 1707) was on Austrian territory after the end of the Second World War and was returned to Yugoslavia in 1947.
