FTG (Abbreviation for Freedom That's Gone ) is a Malaysian thrash metal band from Kuala Lumpur that was formed in 1989.

history

The band was formed in 1989 and consisted of singer Bart, guitarist Jac, bassist Mie and drummer Zam. After the group had developed the first songs, a self-titled EP was released in April 1991 through FGM Productions . This was followed in 1992 by the album After the Promise via VSP Records , of which over 20,000 units were able to sell. For the 1994 album Spirit to Rebel , the band switched to the Japanese label Pony Canyon . More than 30,000 pieces of the album sold. The following year the band held about two to three concerts a week. The album To the Front , which was released in July 1996, was able to achieve a platinum record (from 25,000 units sold). Towards the end of the year, 40,000 records were sold. After the recordings, singer Bart left the band and was replaced by Tajul. In addition, a best-of compilation was released in 1998 with Stronger Than Steel . The album Aku Tak Peduli , recorded in Malaysian , which followed in the same year , also reached a platinum record and took second position in the national charts. In total, the album sold over 40,000 units. The 1998 album Made in Malaysia included covers of Black Sabbath , Twisted Sister , Deep Purple , Dio , Pink Floyd and Quiet Riot . The album sold 10,000 and a total of over 30,000 units in the first week. A concert that was recorded by 5,000 fans at the Sunway Amphitheater on July 31, 1999, was released as a live album under the name Live at Metal Wars , before the next, self-titled studio album was released in April 2000. This album was the second in Malaysian. Over 20,000 units were sold from the album. In 2001, Made in Malaysia II , another cover album was released, on which the band covered artists such as AC / DC , Gary Moore , Judas Priest , Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. The release was followed by appearances before the band took a three-month break in mid-2002. At the end of 2002 the next album, Reborn, was released . The next two albums followed in 2003 and 2006 with Stop This Madness and Kuasa .

style

The Aku Tak Peduli and FTG albums were recorded in Malaysian. According to classicthrash.com , the band is probably well known in their home country, but rather unknown in the rest of the world. On After the Promise she plays classic Thrash Metal, which varies in speed. The singing sounds rough and almost sounds like it was recorded underwater. The band also play classic Thrash Metal on Spirit to Metal , which was now mostly faster than its predecessor. According to thethrashmetalguide.com, the band plays dark thrash metal that borders on death metal , so a comparison with Protector is obvious.
