Faal ( Dutch failure ) is a funeral doom band founded in 2005 .

history

Faal was founded in the Netherlands in 2005. The line-up of the group has changed several times since it was founded. Only the guitarist Pascal Vervest remained from the band's first line-up. Since the release of their debut, the group has performed internationally and played with Ataraxie , Isole , Forgotten Tomb , The Ocean , October Tide and Mourning Beloveth , among others .

Faal made his debut in 2008 with the album Abhorrence-Salvation , which was released via Ván Records . This album received mostly good reviews, which resulted in a quickly sold out first pressing. After the debut, Faal brought out further releases with large time gaps, the albums The Clouds Are Burning 2012 and Desolate Grief 2018. Both albums were widely received in the media. It was The Clouds Are Burning mostly better than the subsequent Desolate Grief assessed. In the period between the releases of the albums, the band toured England, Holland and Belgium together with Eye of Solitude and The Drowning . A split EP with Eye of Solitude emerged from this tour in 2015 .

style

The music presented by Faal is assigned to the Funeral Doom. Black metal and post-metal are occasionally mentioned as further influences .

The sound of the keyboard is "with a few exceptions, placed very discreetly in the background", whereas "heavy guitars, powerful drums and deep guttural vocals " are central . The tension build-up of the individual pieces can be associated with “parallels to post rock ”, while the dynamics enrich the music “of the Funeral Doom brand with elements from the areas of death and black metal”.
