Fabian Theis

Fabian J. Theis (born May 19, 1976 in Ansbach ) is a German mathematician and university professor .

Life

After graduating from the Gregor-Mendel-Gymnasium in Amberg , Fabian Theis began studying mathematics at the Fernuniversität in Hagen in 1995 , which he broke off in 1996 in order to study mathematics and physics at the University of Regensburg . He completed his diploma studies in 2000 in mathematics in the field of topology with Theodor Bröcker and in physics in the field of neural networks with Elmar Lang. He then started two doctorates. He completed his doctorate in physics in 2002 summa cum laude on the subject of Mathematics in Independent Component Analysis with Elmar Lang at the University of Regensburg. His doctorate in computer science followed a year later with the title Geometric Source Seperation with Carlos García Puntonet at the University of Granada , which he graduated with sobresaliente cum laude . In 2008 he completed his habilitation on Methods for biomedical data analysis: theory and applications at the University of Regensburg.

Theis Bernstein was a Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization from 2006 to 2007 . In 2009 he became Associate Professor at the Chair of Applied Mathematics at the Technical University of Munich . In 2013 he was appointed to the chair for biomathematics there. At the same time, he headed the Computational Modeling in Biology working group at the Helmholtz Zentrum München from 2007 to 2013 . In May 2013 he was appointed director of the Institute of Computational Biology .
