Specialist

The specialist clerk is a business management advancement training of the chambers of industry and commerce (IHK) in a respectively defined functional area. The final exams of the various disciplines are regulated by uniform legal provisions and are carried out by the committees of the competent chambers .

Differentiation between specialist and specialist

The specialist clerk is not related to a branch of the economy as a further education and thus represents the function-oriented counterpart to the branch-specific specialist . The Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the social partners and business organizations agreed to only use the term specialist for the quality and value of a degree in future .

Training content

The Fachkaufmann according to § 53 Vocational Training Act (Vocational Training Act) is one of the master's certificate equivalent commercial vocational training , which usually following a commercial possible vocational training takes place with subsequent relevant professional practice. Private and public educational institutions offer courses on the final exams according to the framework plans of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry . They usually last between 3 and 24 months (full-time or part-time form), but participation in a course is not mandatory for admission to the final exams.

Successful graduates meet the requirements for participation in an IHK examination to become a certified business economist .

Since January 31, 2012 there has been a new classification in the education system. With the newly created qualifications framework - the DQR / EQR - the federal government, the federal states and the social partners reached agreement to place the specialist clerk and specialist at level 6.

Some chambers of handicrafts award the qualification of specialist in handicrafts management for the successfully passed 3rd part of the master's examination (business administration, accounting, marketing, human resources, finance, organization and law) .

General university entrance qualification

According to the decision of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs on March 6, 2009, successful graduates of specialist business training courses for which there are examination rules according to Sections 53 and 54 BBiG and which comprise at least 400 teaching hours, receive the general university entrance qualification . In addition, they meet the requirements for participation in the IHK examination to become a certified business economist or the HWK examination to become a certified business economist in accordance with the Crafts Code .
