The Fachklinik Eusserthal is a clinic for the rehabilitation of addicts . It is not far from the town of Eusserthal in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is run by the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Rheinland-Pfalz .

history

The "Association for People's Health Resorts in the Palatinate", founded in 1897, set itself the goal of building a people's health center to fight tuberculosis and was supported as a lender by the Insurance Company for the Palatinate in Speyer . The construction work started in 1901 was completed in 1905 as the "Heilstätte Ramberg ". In 1908 the insurance company for the Palatinate took over the sanatorium. Expansion and renovation measures followed: in 1926 the doctor's house, in 1927/28 a chapel, in 1928 the reclining hall for the women's department and in 1929 the reclining hall for men. In 1929 the gatehouse was added and in 1936 a double house for the hospital staff was added. The Eusserthal Clinic produces healthy food in its own Gut Rothenhof at the foot of the Trifels . The farm, which was acquired in 1925, was used by the clinic until 1958 and then sold.

Even after the Second World War , there was a high rate of tuberculosis diseases, so in 1956 an extension was added. From 1957 to 1959, the historic building was also modernized. Due to the decline in tuberculosis, there was a realignment in the 1970s. In 1978 the clinic was converted into a specialist clinic for alcohol and drug addicts. In August 1980 the last patients treated for pulmonary tuberculosis left the clinic. Further renovation work followed until 1983.

A major fire on the night of July 1, 2008 caused severe damage to the historic part of the building. It was restored by the end of 2010. The completion of the renovation work was the replacement building erected between 2014 and 2016 for the ward block from the 1950s.

architecture

Striking are the base, corner formation, window reveals , volutes , coat of arms cartouches and neo-baroque decorative elements on the gable on the historical part of the building . They were made from sandstone broken on site and are typical elements of historicism architecture . The architects were Heinrich Jester from Speyer for the original building and Pauljosef Gilgenberg for the construction work in the 1950s.

The replacement building made of reinforced concrete interprets the style elements of historicist architecture with sandstone-colored fiber cement panels as horizontal bands on the ground floor. The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Rheinland-Pfalz took over the planning and execution on its own.

The listed old buildings are on the list of cultural monuments in Eusserthal .

In 1980 the Eusserthal Specialist Clinic was transformed from the original name “Palatine Sanatorium Ramberg”. It refers to the nearby town of Eusserthal in the southern Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate.
