Education and degrees

The North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture maintains vocational colleges with a technical college for agricultural economics in the fields of agriculture and horticulture . In the field of agriculture, the Agricultural College offers further training for farmers to become state-certified agricultural economists . The training lasts two years. It offers the opportunity to acquire the technical college entrance qualification and trainer qualification. The prerequisite for attending the technical college is training as a farmer and subsequent one-year professional experience. Those who can provide evidence of relevant professional activity of at least five years can also be admitted.

history

The agriculture school, which opened in Osnabrück in 1865 , was relocated to Herford in 1868 and later transformed into an agricultural and secondary school. In 1922 the Chamber of Agriculture took over the Herford Agricultural School , which had been organized as the Agricultural Winter School since 1904 . The secondary school branch became the later Ravensberger Gymnasium Herford .

In 1940 the new building of the agricultural school and in 1953 the new building of the agricultural school , which had opened in 1949, was inaugurated. The two schools merged in 1967 and became all-day schools three years later .

In 1994 the school was converted into a technical college for agricultural economics, whereby the two sub-areas continued to exist. In level I (agricultural school) the qualification was "state-certified economist" and in level II (higher agricultural school) "state-certified farmer".

In 2004, the previously independent levels were finally merged into a two-year agricultural college - specializing in agriculture. After successfully completing the technical college and passing the final exam, the students are awarded the title of “state-certified agricultural economist”.

Furnishing

The school building has four classrooms with 15 to 50 seats and is located in a spacious lawn. The classes are based on the latest IT technology, including internet and software access. There is a common room with kitchen facilities, grill, table football, darts and the like for around 50 students. Ä.

Teacher

Seven full-time, part-time or part-time teachers teach at the school. The part-time teachers usually have a special job within the Chamber of Agriculture. For special questions, experts from business consultancy, agricultural administration or practice are regularly called in for the lessons.

Alumni clubs

Former students can become members of two alumni associations, the "Association of Agricultural Technical School Graduates" (VLF) with 485 members (as of 2015) and the "Cheruskia" association with 1,288 members (as of 2007). Both associations mainly take care of the professional and general further education of the former technical college graduates.
