The Fachschule für Foto- und Medientechnik (FFM) in Potsdam is a further education, public-law higher technical school that emerged from the State Technical School for Optics and Photo Technology .

history

The school was maintained in 1997 by a new establishment in the municipal vocational school in Potsdam-Babelsberg as a further education course that builds on the professions in the media industry, and expanded in a media-specific manner. Since September 2002 the FFM has been located on the campus of the Oberstufenzentrum I Technik Potsdam (OSZ I) in a former Guard Ulanen barracks (Potsdam) near the Potsdam Jägertor .

The advanced training as a state-certified photo and media technician at the FFM requires a technical college entrance qualification , relevant professional training and professional experience of at least one year. In particular, applicants with the following professional training are admitted:

Training content

The training consists of the interdisciplinary learning area with the subjects

  • German / communication,
  • English,
  • Commercial and labor law as well
  • Political education.

The job-related learning area is divided into nine learning areas:

  1. Project management
  2. Acquisition and processing of analog and digital data
  3. Output and forwarding of analog and digital data
  4. Design theories and means
  5. Data networks and interactive components
  6. Print products
  7. Online and multimedia products
  8. Business administration and media marketing
  9. Media and material studies

In addition, there is an elective area for acquiring the advanced technical college entrance qualification , which includes German / communication and mathematics. The OSZ-I Technik Potsdam supports the participants of the further education in taking the trainer aptitude test , guides them in the participation in the business plan competition Berlin-Brandenburgan and enables them to certify their English skills (KMK foreign language certificate).

Training conditions

The advanced training takes four semesters. It takes place full-time with 31 school hours per teaching week; the school holidays are free of lessons. Beyond this attendance time, the participants carry out exercises and projects independently or under supervision. In addition to general classrooms, the campus of the OSZ I-Technik Potsdam offers participants two fully equipped photo studios, several black and white and color laboratories, and a specialist room for electronic media processing. The training is free of charge for the participants. In principle, it is eligible for BAföG .

exam

The final exam consists of a written and an oral part. It takes place in the last half of the school year. The written part of the exam consists of the learning areas

  • Acquisition and processing of analog and digital data,
  • Output and forwarding of analog and digital data and
  • Design theories and means.

The oral exam can take place in all learning fields.

graduation

After passing the exam, participants obtain a state-certified technician specializing in photo and media technology. The advanced training at the FFM is partially recognized for the master's examination in the photography trade. The degree can be recognized by foreign universities as a prerequisite for further studies.
