Fada is the capital of the Ennedi-Ouest region in the Republic of Chad in Central Africa . The place is on the Ennedi plateau . The population in December 2005 was approximately 23,800 people.

The place is known for the cave paintings ( petroglyphs ) and bizarre rock formations in the area, as well as for a forest growing in a wadi , the Gweni Fada crater northeast of the city, as well as for the Guelta d'Archei . South of the city is the 2,110 km² game reserve Fada Archei .

history

During the Libyan-Chad border war , Fada was occupied several times by Libyan troops, which only withdrew defeated on January 2, 1987. Heavy bombing by the Libyan air force two days later was supposed to destroy the heavy weapons and ammunition lost there. A final attempt at conquest by the Libyans on March 19 ended with Chadian troops overran the Libyan base of Wadi Dum .
