Fai rumore ( Italian for "You are loud") is a 2020 song by Diodato . It was written by Diodato with Edwyn Roberts and won the 2020 Sanremo Festival .

background

Diodato first became known to a larger audience after participating in the 2014 Sanremo Festival (second place in the newcomer category). After an eighth place at the Sanremo Festival 2018 (together with Roy Paci ), Diodato's participation in the Festival 2020 was finally announced.

Diodato and co-author Edwyn Roberts had met at a songwriting camp that their labels had organized. Fai rumore was created relatively spontaneously during joint studio recordings in winter 2019. Diodato presented the song in the course of the first evening of the Sanremo Festival (on February 4th) and was finally able to prevail in the final on February 8th against the televoting favorite Francesco Gabbani . He was also awarded the Critics' Prize, the Press Prize and the Premio Lunezia for the best text for the song .

Diodato should have presented the song at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam , with Italy as a member of the "Big Five" having qualified directly for the final. However, due to the advancing COVID-19 pandemic , the competition was canceled.

content

The text of the song is about the silence that accompanies the end of a love. It is also an invitation not to keep everything to yourself, but to communicate.

The singer speaks to an unspecified person who, according to him, can break the "unnatural silence" (silenzio innaturale) between them, is "loud" (fai rumore) , and to whom he is drawn, even if he does not know whether it's good for him. He couldn't do without the “beautiful noises” (bellissimo rumore) that they make.

music

The ballad is limited musically primarily on vocals and piano, the drums begins only in the second stanza. It begins directly without an introduction with the first verse, followed by the chorus, second verse and second refrain. A repeated instrumental part acts as a bridge , in which the background vocals come to the fore. The last chorus leads to a short final part.
