Faisal Islam , Bengali ফয়সাল ইসলাম (born May 29, 1977 in Manchester , United Kingdom ), is a British journalist . Since summer 2014 he has been the Political Editor of the British 24-hour news channel Sky News .

Life

Islam, part of a family with Bengali roots, attended Trinity College at the University of Cambridge after graduating from Manchester Grammar School . In 2000 he earned a post-graduate degree in newspaper journalism from the City University of London . An important first stage in his professional career was that of a business correspondent for the British weekly newspaper The Observer . In May 2004, he became a business correspondent for the Channel 4 News program on the TV channel Channel 4 . There he rose to become an economics editor . On June 1, 2014, he was replaced by Paul Mason after it was announced in March 2014 that he was moving to Sky News as Political Editor .

Through his reports and his 2013 book The Default Line , which covered the 2007 financial crisis , the euro crisis and the Greek sovereign debt crisis , Islam earned a reputation as an excellent political commentator and business journalist . The British internet newspaper Independent recognized him in 2016 as one of the most prominent figures on British television ("one of the most recognizable figures on British television"). On June 3, 2016, a few days before the EU membership referendum in the United Kingdom , Islam conducted a highly regarded interview with the head of the Brexit campaign, Michael Gove , in which he said that the British people are tired of the experts (“have had enough of experts "). Its campaign commented on Islam as post-factual politics .
