The Falkenstein is a single, striking sandstone rock in the Zittau Mountains . It stands on the main ridge of the Lusatian Mountains , part of which is the Zittau Mountains. The Czech - German border runs right next to the rock.
history
Until 1922 and from 1938 to 1946 there was a lookout point on the rock that was accessible via a climbing system. Remnants of the steps carved into the rock are still visible today. The rock has been used as a climbing rock for sport climbers since 1922 and 1946.
Location and surroundings
From the summit you have a view of the Lausche in the west, the Bohemian part of the Lausitz Mountains in the south and the Zittau Mountains in the north. Just 50 meters south of the Falkenstein on the Czech side is another sandstone rock, the Krkavčí Kameny or Sokolík (German name: Rabensteine or Kleiner Falkenstein ). 100 meters east of the Falkenstein, the road between Jonsdorf and Dolní Světla crosses the ridge of the Lusatian Mountains.
Rock climbing
On the Falkenstein there are over 20 climbing routes in difficulty levels II to VIIIa on the Saxon scale with a length of 14 to 22 meters. The rock is the partial region Jonsdorf of climbing mountains area Zittauer assigned. The Saxon climbing rules apply . The neighboring Sokolík on the Bohemian side is assigned to the Jedlová a Luž sub- area of the Lužické hory climbing area .
